Imagine you, your family and friends enjoying country living at its best and yet only five minutes to historic downtown Alexander City, fifteen minutes to the lake and only forty-five minutes to Auburn University. In summer enjoy large shade trees and screened-in swimming pool; grill out with family and friends or just enjoy a morning cup of coffee or late afternoon glass of wine sitting on the large deck up in the trees where you can experience nature up close... watch the deer graze, listen to the birds sing and let your spirit soar higher with the hawks.
When we first moved here with its sixteen acres the lady we bought the house from said, "Don't even try growing anything. Nothing will grow." For a few years I believed her and didn't even try but one morning I awoke to a dream where, stepping out of my doorway, I entered a tropical rain forest which inspired me very much. We would love to see her face if she could only see how much everything just flourishes.
It started simply enough. One summer day someone spit some watermelon seeds out in the back yard...the best watermelon we've ever tasted! After that we nourished the soil and planted quite a lot of fruit trees and medicines; pears, plums, figs, blueberries, cherries, Japanese persimmons that are the sweetest thing you've ever tasted. As an herbalist for 30 years, there are many varieties of herbs growing everywhere; rosemary, burdock, raspberries, plantain, to name just a few and that's not even including what is growing in our greenhouse.
After that we just kept adding and growing until we had a self growing Aquaponics system, an art studio and apothecary, storage buildings and even a storm shelter. But not to stop there we screened in the salt water swimming pool and added a new addition to the home along with remodeling our kitchen and just in case we needed it a storm shelter.
